By and by, we found ourselves living within the woodland, from home to school through the grassy paths we cycled on misty morns turning into Autumn and the great fall of leaf and seed. We watched hares dart hither and thither, deer cross our paths, one morning the noble stag stood still ad stilled us with his gaze! The leaves fell about us and I began to look around at the gold and red and orange jewels dropping to the rich floor, how could I not paint this? With magnifying glass and microscope I looked closer and closer at the glorious decay and found richness in the passing of things. And in my heart I knew letting him go was all I could do, in doing so, he would be free to live through us. Koyo, is its name. Koyo is the Japanese word fro leaf watching.
